Vivien Ekanayake started her career as a school teacher in Sri Lanka in 1956. She taught at schools in Nayakakanda, Bopitiya, Budhugehinna, Galkulama, Kochchikade and Kepungoda. She retired in 1988.

The collection of short stories, Meeduma Atharin is her first book.
